Behind the Lens

About James Bowers

I’m James Bowers, creator and host of Behind the Lens. I’ve loved music for as long as I can remember. Mowing lawns to buy stereo equipment and vinyl records to where I am today, daily use of the same Technics stereo system from 1980. It's not just the sound of it, but the way words, music, and art carry memories, struggles, personal identity, and the full weight of being a human. Before this chapter, in the early 90's, I played bass for Jarvis Redwine and Goldbrick. I still play music each week with a good friend in the studio. Just he and I playing what we wish.

Over the past 28 years I spent my time in education, community service, and work supporting students and families, including efforts tied to housing families experiencing homelessness through partnerships with community organizations.

Today, as an Intercity Transit bus driver and the voice of Behind the Lens, I’m still chasing the same thing: the perspective inside the art, the humanity behind the work, and the stories that reveal who we are. Whether you are a musician, photographer, educator, author, nurse, doctor, social worker, business owner, or an artist, I am interested in your perspective.
