About James Bowers

I’m James Bowers, creator and host of Behind the Lens. I’ve loved music for as long as I can remember. Mowing lawns to buy stereo equipment and vinyl records to where I am today, daily use of the same Technics stereo system from 1980. It's not just the sound of it, but the way words, music, and art carry memories, struggles, personal identity, and the full weight of being a human. Before this chapter, I played in the early 1990s Olympia bands Jarvis Redwine and Goldbrick, and over the years my life also took me into education, community service, and work supporting students and families, including efforts tied to housing families experiencing homelessness through partnerships with community organizations. Today, as an Intercity Transit bus driver and the voice behind Behind the Lens, I’m still chasing the same thing: the perspective inside the art, the humanity behind the work, and the stories that reveal who we are.
